How does the Federal Government Interact with the Provincial Governments?

Recently, the most influential action introduced bilateral agreements called the ‘home and community care, and mental health and addictions services bilateral agreements’ signed by all provinces and territories with the federal government in 2017.

The agreements addresses all aspects of health care which includes mental health concerns.

The funding aims to improve the healthcare treatments for the population across the country.

In 2017 the Federal government issued an $11 billion budget for provinces and territories complying with the Common Statement of Principles on Shared Health Priorities which stated the terms by which each province and territory would use the federal funding.

The objective of the agreement is to improve the quality of living and working conditions in

long-term care settings to prevent infection and increase control measures.

5-years of funding which was dedicated to:

The fund, announced in 2020, committed $1 billion to support provinces and territories. It expired on March 31, 2022. These were the targets for the first 6 out of 10 years of funding commitment seen in the 2017 federal budget.
