We acknowledge that the land on which we have studied and gathered the information for this project is the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) people.
While the internet can be an ideal source of connectivity and entertainment, it also contains a wealth of information (both private and public) that poses safety and privacy concerns. Digital Rights is intended to focus on Canada-centric features related to the usage, regulation, access, and safety of technology and digital media in society. Thus, we created this website with the goal of educating the public about the potentially detrimental effects of technology as well as providing Canadian citizens with an increased holistic awareness of digital rights in Canada. This guide will encompass a wide variety of subjects, including digital rights, legal aspects, media surveillance, politics, social media, digital citizenship, and cryptocurrency.
We are a team of Political Science students at the University of British Columbia with a particular interest in Digital Rights & Security in a Canadian context. Our collective goal is to inform a general audience of digital rights through topics such as, but not limited to, cyber-attacks and cybersecurity, legal and political involvement, cryptocurrency and finances, digital citizenship and social media. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive overview of these topics.
