Preparation for and response to communicable diseases is one of the most vast responsibilities of public health policy. Health Canada and the Public Health Agency work with provincial governments and indigenous health to monitor and prepare proper resources and guidelines for potential disease outbreaks. One of the most important prevention measures in disease control is vaccination. The distribution, safety regulation and education surrounding vaccines is an essential part of public health. Governmental responses to disease outbreaks can significantly shape the outcomes for everyone effected. Policy regarding resource allocation, social distancing and business closures have significant impact on all aspects of society with these policies often have the most severe impact on already vulnerable populations. In comparing the Covid 19 pandemic to the SARS pandemic, the ways in which disease policy has positively evolved as well as the areas in which reform is needed become increasing obvious.
