The objective of this website is to provide a policy-oriented educational overview of the natural resources in Canada. We go about this by focusing on five specific sectors: Fisheries, Forestry, Mining, Energy, and Agriculture. These areas have been identified due to their importance to Canada’s: diverse ecosystems; economy and international relations; rich history and way of life; and how resource extraction has shaped Canada’s development.
Our goal is for readers with little background knowledge on this topic to develop a full understanding of the resource policy landscape in Canada. In doing so, each sector report will engage in multiple levels of analysis. Federal, Provincial, and Municipal policy frames to be sure, but equally Indigenous, Global, and NGO/Industry actors will receive the attention of each team member.
Although each sector is distinct, we will identify and develop several distinct connections that are of main concern with resource extraction such as Indigenous rights and enviornmental protections.
