In light of the quick growth of economic powers such as China and India, and the slow decline of the United States as the global force in what used to be a unipolar world, Canada needs to diversify its trade partnerships and international economic policies due to its strong dependence on the US. With American sentiments towards trade becoming more protectionist in nature, as evidenced by the renegotiation of NAFTA, Canada must look elsewhere to ensure that future volatility is mitigated. Free trade agreements with Korea, the CETA, the CPTPP and partnerships with African Nations are examples of an attempt to achieve a greater number of economic partners and balance international economic ties.
